Starting June 1st, 2009 New York State has imposed a sales tax of 8.375% on all limousines, vans and sedans which can carry more than 14 people.
New York limo companies where given no more than 3 weeks notice of the change, and it will have a big impact on the limo business in New York State and City. We are still reeling, trying to find all the details of the tax and how to properly charge and account for it. Believe it or not, a tax such as this is not something that a business can easily adjust to. Sales reps now have to be aware of what rides are taxable, back office staff needs to account for and report the tax collected. It is a big imposition to small companies; most small limo companies don't even want to deal with the hassles of credit cards let alone collecting taxes.
Already customers are balking at an added 8 cents on the dollar. Since the tax is only on vehicles of 14 passengers or less, we may see a rise in SUV limos which can hold over 14 and still provide a luxurious ride. The tax is also hitting vans and sedans, which will have an impact on the corporate market. A ride to a NYC airport in a sedan or limo will now cost 8% more. The tax is only imposed on rides that start and end in NY, so a ride to Newark from NYC wont be taxable. It's actually a very confusing tax law.
Party and Limo buses as well as charter buses are exempt from the tax, so we are expecting to see a rise in the party bus market in NYC.

With the economy what it is, the Executives and CEO's are quickly becoming the scape goats. It could start to get dangerous for them soon, the furor caused by the AIG bonuses has even lead some to make serious threats of bodily harm towards CEO's and other executives.

The Beacon Theatre is a well known NYC Night spot and concert hall. The Beacon Theatre is called the "Older Sister to Radio City Music Hall", since both venues were the architectural brain child of Samuel "Roxy" Rothafel a famous NYC personality.
First opened in 1929, the Beacon Theatre was the home to the vaudeville and burlesque scene at the time. A wide array of Rock n Roll's greats have since performed at the Beacon Theatre including Queen, James Taylor, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith and Radiohead. The Beacon also hosts Operas as well as ballets.
Upcoming acts at the Beacon include Van Morrison, Levon Helm of the Band and Bryan Adams. The Allman Brothers have been a fixture at the Beacon, performing over 170 shows since 1989. They will be at the Beacon March 9th through the 28th.

Terminal 5 will be hosting the Neville Brothers and Dr John this weekend, friday feb 20. Terminal 5 is located in Midtown Manhattan on 56th St.
The Neville Brothers featuring lead brother Aaron Neville have been making music for over 30 years now and have made some memorable hits. Aaron Neville has been on the music scene making hits with singers such as Linda Ronstadt and Trisha Yearwood. He is best remembered for his hit "Tell it like it is". The Neville Brothers including Aaron have had many hits including "Yellow Moon".
Dr John is a classic New Orleans Native, his music is a mix of jazz, rock & roll, blues and boogie woogie. Dr John has performed with many music acts, and was included in the Bands last concert film "The Last Waltz". He also played with the Rolling Stones on their classic "Let it loose". Dr. John's song "I Walk On Gilded Splinters" inspired many southern musicians, including Duane Allman and Johnny Jenkins.

From what I hear, Guitar Hero is one of the hottest video games out there. I'm a little too old to play video games these days, and if I do play a video game GTA is good; at least you get to kill people. I digress, but what Ive heard from both the old and young is that Guitar Hero is a fun game for everyone. Most people that start off not interested in Guitar Hero are the ones that wined up playing for hours.
